826 CHI "Boring Shop" Facade

826 CHI

Roughly 12ft X 27ft
2006

"In 2006, 826CHI asked Mr. Ware to design the facade of their soon to open secret agent supply store, The Boring Store. Ware accepted and designed this behemoth. Produced and installed by the Spritzel awning company in February of 2007, this Guernica in orange has been slowing cars on Milwaukee Avenue down and bringing perambulators to a halt over the years, as folks young and old attempt to ingest its wisdom."

"Ware is legendary for his graphic design and cartooning wizardry and it is, of course in full display. The design also crackles with Ware's unique voice as he lures customers into the store by attempting to push them away."

"The work is in very good shape for being exposed to the weather of Chicago over the years. It shows wear (and, of course Ware), particularly on the top which was once blue but has now been bleached white by the sun. 826CHI and The Boring Store fear it will not hold on much longer when pitted against another blizzard or the unceasing sunlight of summer."

Awning fabricated/installed by Spritzel Awning Co.
